BLACK Love colour word prompts as the possibilities are endless. I’ve shared two different activities we did; Black play dough, I used Brusho to make the colour super black. The other activity involves using Brusho again but adding it to water, making dark potions. Sometimes you don’t need anything else but some recycled bottles with water to play, adding colour just makes it more inviting. Don’t forget to check out the other accounts. SQUIRREL Good morning, I’ve left this activity out ready for my son to try later. I’ve printed off little playdough mats/counting mats to support counting and number recognition. I didn’t have any acorns here but have used these beautiful natural items from @graspandgather . I would also add to this set up, wooden numbers so they can be matched with the correct number of objects. I wanted this simple to see if he could match the same number of objects to the acorns on the paper plus locate the number on the number line. There is an option to mark make in the box but this isn’t the aim of this activity. Check out other members of the team for more play ideas, there are so many! @mummylouwithlilyandwillowtoo @roseandvioletmama @claire_jeffery81 @amythislittlelife @beckys_treasure_baskets @theconstantdaydreamer @printplaylearn @mama.smith.to2 @oursensorykids @brightbuttonschildminding @entertaining_elsie @mygirlsmake @mayasmoonplay @something.sensory @mumtomessyboys @letsplaymama @childcare_adventures
Hello, thanks to the lovely @play.hooray there are many new followers, so hi! If you swipe right you’ll see a photo of me, Michelle. I love taking photos but rarely like mine to be taken, so this is my look at the floor pose. Anyway, @printplaylearn is a website where you can be a free or premium member to instantly download teacher or classroom resources. It’s aimed at teachers but super useful for parents too as the resources are for children in both the Early Years (EYFS) and Primary School. This @printplaylearn is a place where I share some of the resources or teaching ideas and activities to do in the classroom or school. I work at home with my children so I don’t always post on here but I’m always happy to help. Anyway if you want to ask me anything DM below or I’ll pop a question box in stories. Thanks for following, Michelle
Autumn Downloads – what resources have you been using in the classroom? . Here is a new resource that’s been uploaded on printplaylearn.com link in bio @printplaylearn . Check my highlights to see other versions, word mats are great for supporting vocabulary and spelling.
Phonics On Fridays Sound Search – Hunt for sounds in sand/kinetic sand/paper/rice dry sensory activities. I’ve used @imagistones again (if using for under 3s use larger objects/always watch) with kinetic sand, children can find the objects matching sound. Start with initial sounds, use objects with the same sounds, rhyming words. Pop little pots at the edge with the written sounds so children find the stone to match the sound. I kept this to a summer theme, as it had been super hot here! This activity has loads of variations. If nap time happens I will try and video some more ideas. • alternatives to stones, found objects, flashcards, magnetic letters. • match sound/word image • record sounds/words and play back rather than talking or reading • hide sounds outside, go on a sound hunt • use water play, pop sounds onto ping pong balls/ bottoms of objects to scoop out Next week I’ll try to use activity without story stones, but they are just great for phonics! I’ve tagged some amazing accounts who have great activities as well as go and check out their feeds.
Halloween is coming! I’ve just popped up a new blog post featuring some Halloween play ideas. Did you I have a Pinterest page as well, link in my bio @printplaylearn . I’m so excited for October as there are so many activities to join in with or just follow to get ideas. What are your plans this October? Here are a few things happening; @oursensorykids + @entertaining_elsie set up @play.hooray is doing Do share your October ideas!
Spooky playdough – I love making playdough, I guess it’s because I can make it better than I can cook. This black playdough is fantastic to pop into a tin and take out and about. It can keep a little one entertained and it keeps it airtight. A few ideas for spooky playdough ready for next month; making bats + decorating, creating pumpkins, spiders, making witch hats, cats or a Halloween monster. What do you little ones make with playdough? Recipe used: • 1 cup flour •1/2 cup salt •1 cup of water •2 tbsp oil •2 tsp creme of tartar I made it black using Brusho powder, you could use icing colour or food colouring but often they aren’t as dark black.
Just like that it’s back to school already! Wow that summer went fast. I think that’s because I don’t have to go back to school myself. Good luck to all the teachers, NQTs, parents, careers and most importantly the children this week. Scissors ~ I mentioned in stories the other day that we’ve been using scissors loads at home. Using scissors doesn’t start with cutting. It’s important that muscles in hands are developed through play e.g. building bricks, using tongs or large tweezers, playdough, messy play, lacing + threading beads, stacking cups, tearing paper or using hammer tools. Other things to practice cutting than paper is; playdough, food (cooked spaghetti, herbs, lettuce), strips of paper or making snips into items. Is there anything else you use at home or school to cut?
Just a little reminder there’s a couple GIVEAWAYS happening on @earlyyearsideasfrom_tishylishy account. Check out to see what you could win! One of them is a years subscription to printplaylearn.com . I also wanted to say most of the Ocean and Underwater printable downloads are FREE to download this September. Link in @printplaylearn bio. This is to coincide with the wonderful @oursensorykids theme this month of . Check out @oursensoryshop for more ideas and resources. I’ve found them useful for planning activities for EYFS so much inspiration from other accounts!
